WE'RE GOING GREEN: THE WILLIAMS GROUP ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTMENT
In January 2022 to celebrate our 15th anniversary as The Williams Group, we made a choice about who we wanted to be as an organization for the next 15 years and beyond. One of those decision was to improve our sustainability with how we conducted business and the products we chose to sell.
In the first month, we purged close to 900 products from our Chamber Supply Co. website including single use plastics (we were ahead of the curve on that one) and hundreds of general office supply items that had a recyclable equivalent. In addition, we put an even greater emphasis on promoting our remanufactured printers and print supplies. According to planetgreenrecycle.com, over 375 million empty ink and toner cartridges are discarded annually, ending up in landfills where they take up to 1000 years to decompose fully. We'd like to do our part to help reduce that number.
Deliveries are a challenging part of doing business while minimizing our carbon footprint but we still do our best to fight the good fight. We have moved towards a greater use of couriers with the intent on combining our deliveries with other suppliers. When the time came to retire our old Astro van, we donated it to a local charity and partnered with some generous local mechanics to give it a new lease on life and are proud to report it is still providing a great service to that organization years later. In August 2023 we were proud to add our first fully electric vehicle to allow us to perform small deliveries throughout Central Alberta!
